On Android, critical levels use an alarm-style alert that rings and repeats until you answer. On iPhone, breaking through silent mode needs Apple's Critical Alerts approval. We'll request it for the iPhone release, and we won't claim it until Apple grants it.
Yes. The watch runs on our servers, not on your phone, so closing the app or locking the screen doesn't stop it. When your level is hit, a push alarm is sent to your device.
